Mississippi Concrete Association (MCA), in partnership with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) and the Insulated Concrete Form Manufacturers Association (ICFMA) hosted an ICF Roundtable in Pensacola, Florida June 23-24, 2021. In attendance were architects, developers, home builders and school administrators who experienced firsthand the benefits of building with concrete!
MCA hosted a dinner with presentations from the ICFMA explaining ICF, the Escambia County School District, with the Energy Director presenting the ease of construction, the efficiency of energy savings and outstanding acoustics in the building. Also, an important presentation from the Insurance Department of the corporate office of BancorpSouth, that insures many schools and businesses in Mississippi. He presented on the huge savings on Insurance if you build to the IBHS Fortified Standard with concrete vs. traditional building materials.
The next morning the group assembled at A.K. Suter Elementary School in Pensacola, the first ICF School constructed in Escambia County where the group heard from the architect from that school about the efficiencies of building with concrete! After touring this finished school, the group traveled to a townhouse development under construction in downtown Pensacola made entirely out of ICF and concrete! The developer and construction manager of the project shared with the group. The last leg of the day the group traveled to a new school under construction, where the group heard from the lead construction manager of the project (who ironically attended MCA’s ICF Roundtable in Bowling Green, Kentucky in October, 2019) .
This was a valuable meeting for all who attended and will lead to construction of ICF and concrete in the future in Mississippi!
There are future ICF Roundtables that MCA will schedule in the fall, 2021. If you are interested in attending future ICF Roundtable events, please email Joel Waters at jwaters@mississippiconcrete.com.
