Thursday, January 31, 2019 the Mississippi Concrete Association held it’s annual “Hall of Fame” Awards Banquet at the BancorpSouth Arena and Convention Center in Tupelo, Mississippi during the 2019 MCA Winter Convention. The night started with a reception and that led into the Awards Banquet.
2018 MCA President Grady Gunn from Lehigh Cement welcomed those in attendance to the Awards Banquet. Mr. Gunn then shared a new award for MCA, the “Extraordinary Member” award. The criteria for this award is someone who has been a great team player for MCA and the concrete industry in general, making sure the MCA Mission and Vision is fulfilled each and every day. The inaugural winner for MCA’s Extraordinary Member award was Stanley Mangum from MMC Materials!
Mr. Gunn then called the 2019 MCA President to the stage to present him with the MCA “President’s Gavel.” Mr. Hammett then presented Mr. Gunn with the 2018 “President’s Plaque” and shared with the audience the many advances and accomplishments in the concrete industry that Mr. Gunn helped lead MCA to accomplish under his leadership in 2018.
Regarding the MCA “Hall of Fame” part of the program, honoring 2019 MCA “Hall of Fame” inductee David Collins posthumously. Attached is a link to David’s Bio: here.
Longtime co-worker and friend Don Carlisle from Holcim (US) Inc. shared work and personal stories from David’s life in the cement and concrete industry. Next person to share their stories on David Collin’s life was B & B Concrete President David Brevard. David’s widow, Leigh Ann Collins, came forward and spoke of their heartfelt words regarding David being honored and inducted into the MCA Hall of Fame for 2019. David Collins represented everything that the concrete industry represents and his influence will be felt for years to come.
